Lord Curzon made the trek to Kuari Pass, and since then it has come to be known as Curzon's Trail. It is at an elevation of 4265m in the heart of Chamoli District of Uttaranchal in the northeastern part of Garhwal and is very popular among European and American trekkers. From Gorson, one can have a breathtaking view of the eastern part of Garhwal Himalayas. The prominent peaks visible from Kuari Pass are the twin peaks of the Nanda Devi, Kamet, Dronagiri, the Hati-Ghodi Parvat, Dunagiri, Bethartoli and the Devasthan.

Tapovan : This is the meditation ground of the Gods at the base of divine mountain "Shivling". Quite some time can be spent at Tapovan soaking in the spiritual atmosphere and undertaking treks to the bases of various majestic peaks. The sunrise and sunset on Shivling and Bhagirathi group of peaks is an experience in itself. Auli : Joshimath which is 47km from Badrinath was founded by the Adiguru Sankaracharya and the snow-covered mountainous vicinity of this town is well known for its winter sports activity, especially skiing. The famous skiing resort of Auli is at a distance of 12km from Joshimath. The scenery of these mountains is extraordinary and a multitude of treks can be undertaken in various directions.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Rishikesh, the Garhwal Himalayas, India
Arrival at Rishikesh. Interaction with the trek organiser and if the trekkers wish, local sight seeing in Rishikesh. Hot dinner and a cosy overnight stay in Rishikesh.

Day 2: Auli
Drive to Auli/Joshimath 272 to 260km with lunch en route. Dinner and overnight stay at Auli/Joshimath

Day 3: Tali
A 14km trek to Tali via Gorson through beautiful and lush Himalayan trails. Lunch packed/prepared by the cook. By evening one approaches Tali for an overnight stay and dinner.

Day 4: Bagarbudda
A 9km trek to Bagarbudda/Khulara with packed lunch. Dinner and overnight stay in Bagarbudda.

Day 5: Kuari Pass
An early morning trek to Kuari Pass which is 4km with packed breakfast. Lunch at Kuari Pass. Late afternoon trek back to Bagarbudda. Dinner and overnight stay at Bagarbudda.

Day 6: Tapovan
Day 6 involves trekking down to Tapovan for 14km. A bath can be taken in the sulphur springs at Tapovan which have medicinal properties. After spending some time at Tapovan a further 15km drive to Joshimath. Dinner and overnight stay at Joshimath.

Day 7: Rishikesh, Garhwal Himalayas, India
256km drive to Rishikesh. Lunch en route. Arrival at Rishikesh.
